These are a people who emigrated in the period 1826-1950 to North America and other overseas territories. As more and more Dutch for 'overseas' left, the government wanted to understand the extent and dynamics of emigration. For a good overview it was necessary to obtain the data of all Dutch emigrants, whether they left from Dutch, German, Belgian or French ports. Also in the population registers of municipalities individuals who left their homes to try their luck overseas can be identified.

This group included the following files:

• 'Staten van landverhuizingen', 1839-1900
From 1847 every municipality made a list of all emigrants in that year left, the 'State of land removals'. The municipality uses the data from the population register. The lists were sent to the Provincial Government. Provincial officials compiled on the basis of a comprehensive list which sent to the Minister of Interior. In Zeeland in 1847 also a reconstruction list was made of all who had already emigrated. As of 1901 the province fell to the duty the obligation to make a collective statement. The states of land removals are in the archives of the Provincial Government of Zeeland. States are included in copy form in the Genealogische Afschriften number 810. This file concerns the names of 1,184 individuals collected from the population registers of the former municipalities of Tholen. It is provided by the archivist of the municipality of Tholen. • Emigrants to North America from West Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, 1840-1950
Mr. A. Vergouwe (deceased in 2004) made during the early nineties of last century a file of all persons who emigrated in the period 1840-1970 from West Zeeuws-Vlaander to North America. The names of these individuals were collected from the population registers of 15 of the 18 former municipalities in this part of Zeeland. The population registers of Sluis and Sint Anna ter Muiden Heille were destroyed in 1944. The work of Mr. Vergouwe was published in 1993 by the then Working Group of the Department Zeeland Emigration of the Dutch Genealogical Society.
